Could Have Been Worse, Apparently

Not pneumonia. That's good.

Bronchitis. That's... not so good.

The good is that I'll probably not have to be hospitalised. The not so good is two weeks worth of doxycycline... and the lingering question of why the f__k I can't cough up all this crap the way normal people do.

Referral to a respiratory physician coming up.

  1. fuck off, shut up, and just take your meds, mate. On time and the whole dose. Get well and stay well. I will be very disappointed if you check out before we've had a chance to drink and eat together.

  2. Yessir. I'm on it.

(I'm good with medication. I have a very sharp memory, and I studied enough biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology to be thoroughly aware of the importance of using medicines in accordance with instruction.)

  3. By the way, Prof - have I mentioned how much you manage to sound like an Australian these days? Have you been keeping up your own medication?

  5. If I make it to Hobart in October (unlikely), will I get to meet your wife and kids? Truly, nothing would please me more.

  6. Mmmm. October... I'm not sure of the timetable for October. But if there's a vaguely feasible way of doing it, Prof, I will make it happen. Keep me posted.

  7. Try percussion. Lay on ya stomach with your face hanging over the edge of the bed. Get ya missus to cup her hands and bash ya - solidly - on the back around the lungs. Keep doing till you're coughing stuff up. They do that with people who have cystic fibrosis.

  8. Really good suggestion, Moko. Thanks! I'll have to get young Genghis to do it for the time being - Nat doesn't get back until Sunday. But it is definitely worth a shot

  9. You've probably got 'plugs' in the small airways that you can't get rid of and are causing infections that won't go away. It's a self perpetuating vicious cycle. If you cough up quite solid phlem, then that's what it is.

  12. Very good. Take your drugs and get better! Coughing your heart up continually sucks big time.
