You might consider looking into a Montessori school. Properly run, they make a great deal of sense. If there was one available hereabouts, I'd have the kids into it in a flash.

But the public/private debate is a waste of time, for all of me. Private schools do exactly what public schools do, except that they cost a lot more, and have more bells and whistles. The teaching practices are fundamentally the same.Flintharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08862235828346393495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-18155181003179100602013-07-04T03:46:05.279-07:002013-07-04T03:46:05.279-07:00You can only do the pushing-up-the-grades so far, ...You can only do the pushing-up-the-grades so far, comrade. I graduated year twelve at age fifteen. My high school years were... not a grand social success, shall we say?

University worked a lot better, especially as I took a year off in between.
Flintharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08862235828346393495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-11496305554945085282013-06-30T07:18:20.178-07:002013-06-30T07:18:20.178-07:00Its interesting to read this, as although we have ...Its interesting to read this, as although we have our girl advanced a whole year ahead *ooga booga pushy parents* the problem we face with her stupidly expensive school is that BECAUSE she is a year ahead they STILL do not push (or encourage) her participation at *her* level. So for reading, she would be reading and comprehending with the year 6 children, easily. But no year 6 reading buddy has appeared :( In Maths, aside from some areas she missed early on, she's easily in the top of the class (18/20 consistently on tests) yet somehow that doesn't translate to any maths extension, or it seems anything more than a B mark. She gets extremely confused and pissed off, as do we!

Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11359069551920244715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-68856672238997950542013-06-27T18:25:57.888-07:002013-06-27T18:25:57.888-07:00We have had the same problem with Eldest Child. ...We have had the same problem with Eldest Child. Being only 8, she finishes a young adult novel in less than one day. And yes we get the same crap from her about the books she has to read for school etc etc.

We saw this coming years ago, and half way through year 1 we pulled her out and started to homeschool her. By the end of the year she had finished year 2 through distance education, and we pressured the best private school on the coast to accept her into year 3.

So she is in a year above what she should be, still way beyond their realms in terms of reading material. She has found my ebook reader and for the past 4 months hasn't let it go.

So .. you are not alone...Blaegorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04406957879092007676noreply@blogger.com
