Scottsdale was one of the first, if not THE first, township to be connected. But at 15km or so outside Scottsdale, we're just too far, thanks. For all foreseeable futures. I've pretty much given up on seeing anything on the NBN here. Two days after buying the phone it was still not working. I was bitching about it on twitter and the people from @telstra got in touch and within a few hours it was all sorted. I let their twitter people deal with the call centre dudes, the on-hold machines etc and only dealt with them via twitter, email or voice when they actually called me (which they did).

So it seems there is actually a use for Twitter after all.

Cheers

DDave Saghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06704072673638333474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-56706548321119652182012-01-09T15:45:05.685-08:002012-01-09T15:45:05.685-08:00I tweeted this, and cut @telstra into the message....I tweeted this, and cut @telstra into the message. Happily, she wasn't in Singapore when they said she was sucking down data there, so they caved pretty quickly on that one. Took me less than two hours on the phone to sort it out.
Unfortunately, I can't check that YouTube vid for a week or so. 64kpbs is good for text, and not much else.

Unknown: it's been a string of little stuff, y'know? Like most Australians, I prefer not to complain unless it's serious. Telstra service is like being...well, nibbled to death by determined ducks. You're never quite sure when it's actually worth worrying about. But I will remember the TIO. Oh yes.

Gomichild: well, I'm jealous. But it's good to know they've got it right for somebody, somewhere.

Dome: yep. Competition would be nice. But you're telling me that 10km out of Hobart you can't get ADSL? Wow!

Stinginthetail, Moko... the accents are definitely Bollywood. They may have a George St call centre - but do they hire anyone who doesn't have an accent so impenetrable that my mobile phone turns it into gibberish?

And Melbo: your dad's story makes sense to me. Over the last ten years, I've watched them strip personnel out of this area. Not surprisingly, I've talked with (made cups of tea for, sympathised with, carried tools for, etc) a good number of Telstra techs. I'm on a first-name basis with the one who's still here... and the stripping of personnel has doubtless enhanced the bottom line, but it's very, very much at the expense of providing a service.

Like I said: the first time anyone offers me a viable alternative to this shit, I am gone, baby gone.Flintharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17456024642528783549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-76305589417674922292012-01-09T01:42:25.371-08:002012-01-09T01:42:25.371-08:00(Warning: more language for any kiddies who may s...(Warning: more language for any kiddies who may still be lurking.)

Ah, I think I'll just hand this over to me Dad who used to work for "Telecom" and in fact, started working for them when they were still in bed with Aussie Post and calling themselves the PMG. They live in a rural area as you do. This is what he told me last time they lost service:

"Now here's the thing: if you'd called up in the old days, you would have got through to me at the local exchange. I'd have sent someone out to fix the problem that day or probably even gone out myself and done it. Now ... your mother and me have been without a phone for over a week and I've rung their bloody call centre twice but nobody can tell us who will be out to fix it or when. Jeez, that's a fuckin' improvement isn't it, but don't worry because some bastard's making MILLIONS out of this. If you make enough complaints and go through the TIO once or twice or more, and then threaten to go through the TIO again, they give you special access. This special access gets you people who usually have Australian accents, and even if they don't they do actually work in Oz, and they fix the problems.

Mind you, finding the email address and postal address for the CEO of Telstra probably also helped. Also keep records. Of EVERYTHING.

NOTE: Any time a complaint is made to the TIO, it costs Telstra. Anytime that complaint is escalated due to Telstra's failure to address the issue, it costs Telstra more. Making a complaint to Telstra and reminding them that you know this is a powerful incentive for Telstra's staff to help.Nalini Hayneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11258073393239527942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-23699033015795649882012-01-08T23:04:10.016-08:002012-01-08T23:04:10.016-08:00on a side note, want one of these? http://m.youtub...on a side note, want one of these? http://m.youtube.com/#/profile?desktop_uri=%2Fuser%2FJoergSprave&help=False&channel_id=0&livestreaming_tutorial=False&ytsession=%7B%7D&start=0&user=JoergSprave&tab=&autoplay=True&gl=AU&view=videos&v=qxtHtPK2MH8Skarburnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08438311566093114722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2485469691062620401.post-74574041385172352002012-01-08T22:55:45.026-08:002012-01-08T22:55:45.026-08:00They're also flagrant liars.
